There are several different classes of HIV medications available. These classes are divided into seven different groups and include NRTIs, NNRTIs, NtRTIs, protease inhibitors, entry inhibitors, integrase inhibitors, and combination medications. In most cases, people with HIV or AIDS use medications from several of these classes. Using a combination of HIV medications helps to prevent the HIV virus from becoming resistant to one or more of the drugs.
Combivir
Combivir is an antiviral combination used with other medicines to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection.
Epivir
This medicine is a nucleoside analogue used with other medicines (such as zidovudine or ritonavir) to treat human immunodeficiency virus infection (HIV).
Epivir-HBV
Lamivudine (Epivir) is used in combination with other medications to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Lamivudine is not a cure and may not decrease the number of HIV-related illnesses. Lamivudine does not prevent the spread of HIV to other people. Lamivudine (Epivir-HBV) is used to treat hepatitis B infection. Lamivudine is in a class of medications called nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors. It works by stopping the spread of the HIV and hepatitis B viruses.
Retrovir
Retrovir is an antiviral used to manage human immunodeficiency virus infection (HIV). Retrovir is also used to prevent the transmission of HIV to the fetus during pregnancy.
Viramune
Viramune is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor used to treat human immunodeficiency virus infection (HIV). Viramune is not a cure for HIV. Viramune must be used in combination with other proven anti-HIV medicines. If Viramune is taken alone to treat HIV infection, it may stop working. Contact your doctor for more information. Viramune may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Zerit
Zerit is a nucleoside analogue antiviral used in combination with other medicines to manage human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection.
Ziagen
Abacavir is used in combination with other medications to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in patients with or without acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Abacavir is in a class of antiviral medications called nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). It works by slowing the spread of HIV infection in the body. Abacavir is not a cure and may not decrease the number of HIV-related illnesses. Abacavir does not prevent the spread of HIV to other people.
